SkiLMeeT to hold webinar on AI with Anton Korinek on 12 May

SkiLMeeT is pleased to invite you to the next session of its research webinar series exploring the evolving landscape of labour and skills in the context of the green and digital transitions.

Anton Korinek will present his research at the webinar “Demand for Labour and Skills in the Age of AI” on Monday, 12 May 2025, from 15:00 to 16:00 CET

Professor Korinek will explore how advances in AI may fundamentally reshape the role of human labor in the next few years by making machines perfect substitutes for most human labor, potentially leading to widespread declines in demand. He will examine how AGI could render many traditional skills obsolete, necessitating a fundamental reevaluation of education and skill development. Building on his paper “Economic Policy Challenges for the Age of AI,” Professor Korinek will discuss which human-centric roles may persist post-AGI – for example, those valuing authentic human connection or requiring human identity – and how policy frameworks would need to evolve to ensure shared prosperity in this transformed economic landscape.

Anton Korinek is a Professor in the Department of Economics and at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, as well as a David M. Rubenstein Fellow at the Brookings Institution. His current research analyses the implications of AI for business, the economy, and the future of society.

His previous research examined the mechanics of financial crises and developed policy measures to prevent future disruptions, including an influential framework for regulating capital flows in emerging economies. He has also explored the conditions under which international policy coordination is beneficial.
