SkiLMeeT webinar on occupational mobility with Armando Miano

Leiden, Netherlands,  3 November 2025 – Join us for a SkiLMeeT research webinar where Armando Miano from the University of Naples Federico II will present his work “Understanding Occupational Mobility”.

The webinar will take place on 13 November 2025 from 15:00 to 16:00 CET. You can register here.

In this webinar, Armando Miano will explore preliminary findings from a study examining how employees perceive and respond to opportunities for occupational mobility. Together with Pascal Heß (IAB), Armando uses a large-scale online survey of 4,500 full-time workers in Germany linked with administrative employment data to measure workers’ beliefs about how transferable their skills are, how similar alternative occupations are to their own, and how they weigh the potential benefits (such as higher earnings) against the costs (including retraining or licensing requirements) of moving into different occupations.

The study also captures respondents’ beliefs about the exposure of their own and alternative occupations to automation, AI, and the green transition.

Armando Miano is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Statistics at the University of Naples Federico II. He is also a Research Fellow at CSEF and a Guest Researcher at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB). Professor Miano received his PhD in Economics from Harvard University in May 2023, and holds a BSc and an MSc in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi University.

His research interests include labour economics, public economics, and political economy. His work uses large-scale surveys and experiments to study how people’s perceptions and expectations shape behaviour and attitudes towards public policy.
