Join us for the final SkiLMeeT webinar featuring Federico Fabio Frattini (Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM)), who will present SkiLMeeT research on whether jobs involving green tasks offer higher wages in the European labour market.
The webinar, “Returns to Green Tasks in Europe: Evidence from Online Job Vacancies,” will take place on 26 November, from 15:00 to 16:00. You can register here.
As Europe transitions towards a greener economy, demand for new skills and tasks is growing. But do jobs requiring green skills offer higher wages? And what factors explain these wage differences?
Drawing on online job vacancy data from EU countries between 2018 and 2023, the SkiLMeeT research uses a set of large language models to identify green skill requirements and examine their relationship with wages
The findings show that green jobs command a premium of 5.5% over comparable postings within the same occupation. Firm fixed effects absorb roughly half of this premium, consistent with firm rents, and skill complexity a further one tenth, leaving a residual return to green tasks of approximately 2%. Nonmonetary attributes matter little.
